The Czech Republic has announced the opening of its fully funded government scholarship programme for the 2026/2027 academic session. The initiative is available to Nigerians and citizens from 11 other developing countries, offering a chance to study at public universities across the country.

This scholarship programme is part of the Czech Republic’s long-standing commitment to international development through education. Since the late 1950s, more than 20,000 international students have benefitted from similar scholarships, earning degrees at Czech institutions.


The scheme is managed by the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, in collaboration with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Health. Applications are to be submitted online by September 30, 2025.

Eligible Countries

Citizens from the following countries are invited to apply:

  • Africa: Nigeria, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Zambia
  • Europe: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Ukraine, Belarus (democratic forces)
  • Asia: Cambodia, Sri Lanka
  • Middle East & Latin America: Jordan, Guatemala

What the Scholarship Covers

The scholarship supports the full duration of selected academic programmes, available in Czech or English, based on the applicant’s origin and course preference.

Recipients will also receive a monthly allowance to support basic living costs:

  • CZK 16,000 for Bachelor’s and Master’s students
  • CZK 17,000 for Doctoral candidates

Programmes Offered

Czech Language Track:

  • Bachelor’s degree (only for applicants from Georgia)
  • Follow-up Master’s degree (for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Ukraine, and Belarus)
  • One-year Czech language preparation course

English Language Track (Open to all eligible applicants):

  • Two-year Master’s programmes
  • Three- to four-year Doctoral programmes

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet the following academic qualifications:

  • Completion of secondary education (for Bachelor’s degree applicants)
  • A completed Bachelor’s degree (for Master’s programmes)
  • A Master’s degree (for Doctoral programmes)

Candidates applying for English-taught programmes are required to take an online English proficiency test. Final selection also depends on passing relevant entrance examinations.

Additional Information

Travel costs to and from the Czech Republic are not covered and must be borne by the student or their sponsoring institution. Non-essential healthcare services are also not included.

If a student exceeds the designated duration of their programme or pauses their studies, scholarship benefits will be terminated. Similarly, violations such as providing false information, failing to meet academic standards, or skipping mandatory health checks could result in a loss of scholarship.
